WESTON Seconds were visitors to Wyvern School last Saturday against local rivals Winscombe, but were beaten 3-1.

The play was evenly spread for the first few minutes, but an early goal from the hosts saw them dominating the majority of the first-half.

Despite confident keeping from Weston’s stand-in goalie Ellie Etchell, Winscombe’s second goal came from a succession of quick, accurate passes, outwitting the Weston defence.

The tables were turned just before the break when Weston fought back with great distribution from midfielders Lynne Fryer and Emma Whitehead.

Superb movement off the ball combined with strength on the ball from Sadie Sjogren opened up the Winscombe defence and a deserved goal eventually came from a rebound pounced on by Rachel Aldington, leaving Weston trailing by just one at the interval.

The second half continued with Weston controlling the game and some fine strikes from vice-captain Jade Brown, forcing some good saves from the Winscombe keeper.

However, a controversial decision saw the Weston’s defence caught out and Winscombe scored their third goal of the match.
