Winscombe Ladies Hockey Club won promotion as highest runners-up in Sedgemoor League 1.
WINSCOMBE Ladies Hockey Club’s first XI finished the season as highest runners-up in Sedgemoor 1 League, winning them promotion back into Central Division after a six-year absence.
Unbeaten at home, scoring 78 goals and playing some fantastic team hockey to win promotion was a proud achievement for first team coach Emma Pike. Emma came to Winscombe in 2007 after the team had just been relegated from the Central Division after 15 years.
She said: “The squad have worked hard this season, and their fitness and discipline as a team has proven decisive and a number of games this year. I am very pleased with their success and they are hoping to build on this next season.”
A delighted captain, Kelly Clark added: “All of us in the first team are looking forward to playing at a higher standard next season.”
It was nearly a double celebration as the club’s second XI just missed out on the runners-up promotion place in Sedgemoor 2 as they were beaten by the eventual league winners in the last match of the season, despite scoring a record 78 goals.
Winscombe train and play at the Hans Price Academy in Weston. Players of all standards and levels plus junior players (under-13s) are invited to a free taster session when training resumes for the new season in August.
New players receive half-price membership for a year. Please e-mail Gail Izzard at Izzards@btinternet.com for further information.
