Katie Elliot snatched the winning goal for Weston ladies in a fine victory at Taunton Vale.

Taunton Vale Ladies 4th XI 1

Weston Ladies 1st XI 2

WESTON ladies 1st XI travelled to Taunton to face a strong and experienced Taunton Vale 4th XI.

Weston fielded a strong team with Jade Brown and Elsa Greed featuring in the line up.

The game started with each side matched for pace. Taunton Vale scored their goal early on, a breakdown in play helped them to fire one home, leaving Weston dismayed.

Weston’s midfield of Katie Elliott, Lyzette Bassett and Charli Dale work hard through the middle of the field, breaking down play and setting up their advances.

After a grilling from coach Gary Blythe, Weston bounced back, refreshed and determined to have impact in the second half.

Some great play throughout the field allowed Weston to capitalise on their performance so far, sheer grit from Lucy Clarke on the far post gave Weston the equaliser they deserved.

After some great play from Dale and Brown, Weston earned a short corner. Super skills from Claire Westgate found Katie Elliot, who put the ball in the back of the net.

Taunton fought well and continued to put pressure on Weston’s defence, consecutive short corners for Vale pushed Weston, however, these did not phase keeper Sarah Morrison who cleared with ease.

Mercedes man of the match went to Hayley Mawford.

Weston’s next game is at Broadoak School against White Eagles on November 28 (noon).
