Weston ladies fired seven goal past Chard to record a fine victory.

Weston Ladies 1st XI 7

Chard Ladies 2

AFTER a slow start from Weston, Chard scored the opening goal of the match.

Despite having most of the possession in the first-half, Weston’s play was scrappy at best, but Lucy Clarke managed to score an equalising goal just before half-time.

The second half saw a different Weston approach with three goals from Warden, Kingscott and Redman all coming in quick succession. Space opened up on the pitch and Weston attacked in numbers.

An excellent strike from the edge of the D resulted in a goal for Crandon, two more well-taken goals from Clarke saw her claim her hat-trick.

A good team performance with solid defending at the back from Mawford, Dale, Gordan and Westgate and excellent supporting play in midfield from H Mawford saw a final score of 7-2 to Weston.

Mercedes Benz player of the match was Kelly Redman.

Winscombe Ladies 2nd XI 1

Taunton Vale Ladies IV XI 2

MISSED penalty corners and a saved penalty flick proved costly in this match that Winscombe should have won.

In spite of a solid effort by everyone on the Winscombe team, Taunton Vale held on tightly to their lead, to snatch a win and all three league points.

Taunton Vale then managed to convert their third short corner with a cracking strike from the top of the D. In spite of some great saves by Winscombe goalie Theresa Williams (TJ) and unrelenting defending by Jodie Honour, Lucy James, Jo Horwood and Emma Callow, Taunton Vale were able to extend their lead just before half-time.

In the second half, Winscombe came out in determined mood and pinned Taunton back into their own half. They kept the Taunton keeper busy with some good early attempts at goal, but without finding the backboard.

A penalty flick was then awarded to Winscombe which vice-captain Becky Matthews was unable to convert. This however made Winscombe even more determined, with Trudie Lynham then took a long corner which she passed into captain Vicky Calder, who surged into the D to score.

Chantelle Mielle, Ella Horwood and Keri Willis all play well in midfield, resulting in several more shots on goal which unfortunately went wide of target.

The John Hodge Solicitors’ player of the match was Vicky Calder.

Frome Ladies 3rd XI 0

Winscombe Ladies 3rd XI 4

THE thirds brought the points home as two double strikes and a saved flick left Frome flailing.

Winscombe took an early lead when some delightful passing and support play from Laura Harvey found Sloman in space. She crossed to the far post which was neatly converted by Helen Sinclair.

When a Frome shot was stopped on the line by a defender’s foot, resulting in a penalty flick, Winscombe’s goalie, Jo Sawtell, on her debut, stood tall to parry the ball away from goal.

Winscombe hit back with good play by Emma Whitehead and Vicki Pagett, finished off by Sloman for Winscombe’s second.

After the break, good play from captain Gill Harvey, George Dix-McGrath and Hann helped keep a clean sheet.

Two further Winscombe goals followed. Sloman’s quick reactions resulted in her second and Pagett played a one-two with Roxy Newman before Sinclair netted her second.

The John Hodge Solicitors’ player of the match was Alice Sloman.
