Weston St Johns 0

LANGFORD made it a derby day double over Weston St Johns with this victory to keep alive their promotion hopes and all but condemn the Saints to relegation.

Back in January, a Joshua Evans strike was all that separated the sides at Coleridge Road. This time around, a double from William Sneddon-Coombes and an Adam Filer strike saw the Bulls to victory.

Sneddon-Coombes opened the scoring from a penalty before doubling the lead following a counter attack.

Langford were camped in the visitors half, enjoying the large majority of possession and creating numerous chances and the goal of the game followed with a cracking 20 yard drive from Filer.

Rovers closed the game out by controlling possession in what was a comfortable victory.

The man of the match award kindly sponsored by Edge Barbers, went to target man Adam Filer.

Winscombe 8

Taunton Utd 2

WINSCOMBE put the disappointment of losing 2-1 to league leaders Combe St Nicholas by defeating fourth-placed Taunton.

The hosts were one up after 10 minutes, but there was a goal spurt as they raced into a 6-1 lead after only 25 minutes.

Winscombe went looking for more goals in the second half and scored two more to make the final score 8-2. Goals were scored by Flint (4), Hutchinson (3) and Clark. On Saturday, Winscombe host Highbridge in the Division Cup semi-final.

Congresbury 4

Banwell 2

CONGRESBURY recorded a comfortable win, but were made to work hard for long periods by a determined Banwell side.

The hosts got off to the perfect start when Joe Whittaker burst through and lobbed the keeper after only seven seconds. Banwell equalised when a well-flighted corner deceived keeper Danny Bullock and ended up in the back of the net.

Some poor defending by Congresbury allowed a striker to head home a bouncing ball to give Banwell the lead, but near the end of the first-half Tony Tuckfield burst clear and a Banwell defender pulled him down and was sent-off.

Just before the break, following good work by Rob Harraway, Tuckfield edged out a defender and made the score 2-2 with a cool finish.

The second half was dominated by Congresbury with defenders Ash Flavell, Alex Read, Brian Wrigley and Whittaker comfortable in dealing with the rare Banwell attacks.

With Kyle Havard, Dave Blakley and Seb Williams winning the midfield battle, it was no surprise when Congresbury took the lead when Liam Knight’s shot was saved and the rebound fell to Tuckfield to make the score 3-2.

There were further chances for Harraway, Knight and Tuckfield as Congresbury dominated, before the final goal came when Harraway’s shot was blocked and full-back Wrigley scored to make the final score 4-2.

Tincknells Country Store player of the match was Tony Tuckfield.
