AFTER making the last four of the county cup last week, the Bar booked a semi-spot in the Atwell Shield, courtesy of this victory over Cheddar.

The Bar took the lead through top scorer Luke Page with a good finish across the keeper. The lead was doubled when captain Sprague curled an effort into the bottom right hand corner. Sloppiness saw Cheddar pull it back to 2-2 at the break.

Ash Brewer was introduced and quickly made his mark, when he outstripped his marker and restored the lead for the Bournville boys. A mix-up in defence resulted in a Cheddar equaliser before Sprague and Kieran Thompson both missed open goals.

With 20 seconds remaining on the clock, it was Page who netted the winner and the Bar a semi-final spot and another meeting with Kewstoke Lions.

There were solid performances from the midfield trio of Robert Tyson, Kelly Tyson and Damon Godbeer, aided by the back four, whilst Page, Lee Neilson and Sprague chased everything up front.

In the draw for the semi-final of the Somerset Junior Cup, Sports Bar were handed a home tie against Freshford United, of Bath on April 9 (2.30pm).

Winscombe Res 1

Westland Res 0

WESTLAND travelled to promotion-chasing Winscombe in their penultimate game of the season.

They were hampered by 11th hour player dropouts and first team call-ups that left Westlands with a scratch side.

Predictably, Winscombe had a lot of the possession in the opening exchanges but the back four of Sage, Whyte, Cullis and Sharp stood firm.

Westland created the best two chances of the half when a cross from Nick Crocker fell to the feet of centre forward Neil Keeling who couldn’t control his shot with the goal gaping.

The second also fell to Keeling who headed over at the back post. Winscombe took the lead with the last kick of the half with a sublime 20 yard effort that crashed in off the bar.

The second half was a bit of a stalemate between the two sides, the home side created a few openings that were all dealt with by Westland’s long term stand-in keeper Paul Wray. Keeling had his third chance of the game, but his shot was well saved by the home keeper.
