THE two teams dominating Group A of the Archdale Cup both turned in good results.

Vets A, leading the group, beat Winsc Warriors despite their less favourable handicaps. Colin Lewis and Roger Crump (both 2) and Ann Sandford (6) won all their matches.

Paul Millward (12) was a tough opponent and unlucky not to take a point after taking all three to three games. Crump also lost the second game to Dave Parker (11). Vets go through 9-0.

Totterdown Flamingos were no pushover either. Nigel Andrews (7) beat Ann Sandford in three and had close games with Crump, playing some great forehand and backhand shots. Crump won all three though it was close against Lyudmilla Cronin, who was unlucky not to win. Cronin beat Lewis in three as Vets won 7-2.

Winsc Renegades also had two good wins to consolidate their position. Against Walton Wanderers, who could only field two players, Wanderers’ Mike Harris (-2) played well to take all three against Paul Hayward (-3) and Trevor Jones (1) in two, but Phil Yates (10) held on to win one game. Renegades won 6-3.

Playing Vets C, Renegades won the match 8-1, Paul Hayward (-3) had a tough match to beat John Barcham (9) and Roger Norvill and Mark Treasure both 10. Treasure took the lone Vets’ point beating Trevor Jones (1).

Warriors just missed out by one point against C & C Banwell. Max Jerimiah took top honours with three wins, losing a game to Anne Baker and Margaret Parker.

Hannah Cope and Katie Groom were both successful against Parker and put up a strong defence in the doubles to lose out to the more experienced Baker and John Cook. The team effort had been enough as Banwell won 18-17.
