Somerset Super League Darts Division 1 leaders Weston were held to a draw by third-placed Taunton.
WESTON’S Super League darts team started off the New Year in top spot in Division 1 of the Somerset Super League Darts at home against third-placed Taunton Outcasts.
Weston got off to a bad start losing both opening games, but fought back with George Turnbull hitting a 180 in his 3-0 win with a 29.90 average.
Bobby Moore won 3-1 bringing Weston almost back on level terms and then proceeded to take the lead with Mark Stainer (21.29) winning 3-1 and skipper Nick English winning 3-2.
Weston let it slide again, going 15-16 down, but then turned the screw with Ian Cope (25.24) winning 3-0 and Gary Howell coming out on top 3-2.
The closest game of the night was the last game with Ricky Harding storming away, but for a missed double was on for a 34+ average, but Taunton’s player dragged it back to 2-2, before Harding put it to bed with a 28.08 ave.
Weston went into the pairs with a narrow 24-23 lead, this was extended by Clive Strong and Howell winning 3-0 and George Turnbull and Nick English winning 3-2. Weston dropped legs on board 2 before Cope and Darrell Brown won 3-2.
Weston lost the last game on board one and needed one leg for victory and Taunton needed 3-0 for a draw. Weston failed to deliver the killer blow and were held to a draw.
Thanks go to Becky Gould and Jimmer Hunt for assisting in the new computerised running of the averages. Man of the match went to George Turnbull.
Weston’s next game is away to West Somerset (Williton) on February 11, bus leaves the Bristol Hotel at 6.15pm.
