Lele Nairne took just 39 seconds to win the gold medal at the Plymouth open judo championship.

FOURTEEN-year-old judoka Lele Nairne of Kewstoke, entered the prestigious Plymouth open judo championship and took the gold medal.

She had a total of four fights and won them all in a combined time of just 39 seconds. Her first fight took 10 seconds, her second six, and in her third she defeated her opponent in just three seconds … although her last on dragged on for 20 seconds.

Following her continuing success on the high level judo circuits, Lele has maintained her place in the British judo squad for the second year and is now looking eagerly forward to next season.

Her father Kevin said: “I couldn’t be more proud of Lele because this is an exceptionally busy point of her life and keeping all the balls in the air at the same time is not easy

“As well as being successful at her school studies and working towards her grade 8 piano exams, Lele still finds the time for either three or four judo training nights and then high level competition at the weekend.”
