LELE Nairne, aged 13, of Kewstoke has been selected to become a member of the English judo squad at pre-cadet level.

Although Lele’s contest year started slowly, she has won medals at every national level event she has entered over the past 12 months, most of them being gold and is now top of the national rankings for her category.

Her membership to the English judo squad will not be easy, as it is designed to take her fitness and performance to the next level.

During the next 12 months, Lele will be attending regular high level training days and weekends around the UK, and will be invited to fight in a variety of national and international contests.

The England judo programme aims to prepare squad members for the ultimate goal of winning medals at the senior world championships and the Olympic games.

Richard Stevens, Lele’s club coach said: “She has just being getting better and better and although she is still young, can give most black belt adults a hard time when training with them.”

Weston Judo Club still has spaces for new members, and take part in a complimentary lesson to see if it is for you.
