Liam Orme, from the Weston Warriors ABC, picked up a national title at the England Boxing National Development Championships.

Weston Warriors ABC entered four of their boxers into the England Boxing National Development Championships.

They entered three juniors and one senior female and all had great success in the tournament.

Jake Ricardo boxed well throughout the tournament making the semi-finals and picked up the Western Counties title on the way.

Hannah Windsor and Alfie Olive both lost narrowly in the finals, both performing very well. Alfie also boxed earlier in the group stages winning the Western Counties title.

Last and definitely not least was Liam Orme, who boxed exceptionally to win the gold medal and bring home the national title.

Head coach Dean Lewis said he was extremely proud of all his boxers and overwhelmed that the club has a national champion in such a short time of him running it.

He said: “There hasn’t been a junior national champion in this town since the 90s so for Liam to do this is a huge success and really shows the direction our club is going. We would like to say a big thanks to all of our sponsors who helped us on this journey.”

Catch the Weston Warriors’ future stars boxing on Saturday at Weston Football Club. Pay on door (£15), doors open 6.30pm.
