Burnham-on-Sea's Liam Phillips is through to the men's quarter-finals of the BMX after he finished tenth in the time-trial tonight (Wednesday).

The 27-year-old, who went to King Alfred School in Highbridge, qualified for tomorrow’s quarter-final clocking a time of 35.095 seconds.

This will determine his seeding for the quarter-final. Phillips tweeted his disappointment after he ‘unintentionally threw the bike sideways.’

The 2013 world champion will compete again tomorrow with the semi-final set to take place on Friday.

France’s Joris Daudet qualified quickest in 34.617 seconds.
