THE lights went on at Winscombe Rugby Club last week when a magnificent set of new floodlights were switched on for the first time.

The 50,000 lighting rig was installed with the help of a 50 per cent grant from the RFU, following the re-negotiation of Winscombe RFC's lease with Sidcot School, who own the playing fields.

The installation of the lights is an important milestone in the development of the club and to commemorate the event an inaugural match under floodlights will be held between Winscombe's Under-16s/17s and Sidcot School 1st XV next Thursday at 7pm. Everyone is welcome and there will be a free buffet for spectators in the clubhouse following the match.

Winscombe has become one of the most successful rugby clubs in Somerset, with over 300 players in their mini and junior sections coached by some 55 qualified coaches.
