Worle Rangers 3
(Worle Rangers won 5-6 on pens)
WORLE Rangers continued their winning run, knocking Division 3 Westend out of the Atwell Shield on penalties.
Rangers were two up after 15 minutes as first skipper Wilson headed home a Hannam corner and then Stephens netted after a superb through ball by Royce.
Wilson, Hannam, Royce and Nott defended well and with Jakeman marshalling things well in goal, any danger was dealt with but Westend pulled a goal back before half-time.
Westend equalised soon after the break, but Rangers went back into the lead when Hannam pulled the ball back for Hancock to score a debut goal. Shortly after Westend scored a third themselves direct from a free-kick and the game went into extra-time. There were no goals in extra time and both sides scored all of their opening five penalties before Westend hit the post and Nott slotted home the winning penalty.
The Curry Garden man of the match went to Dean Bray.
King Alfreds 2
Banwell Res 3
BANWELL Reserves travelled to King Alfred and continued their good run of form in the league with a 3-2 victory.
The hosts took the lead making the most of a rare Dave Purkis mistake by lobbing the keeper from close range. Harry Hornigold equalised from a tight angle, but Kings took the lead when Banwell failed to deal with a free kick.
After the break, Paul Marquis pulled Banwell level with a 20 yard strike. Banwell introduced Mark McKeever, who controlled the final 10 minutes, giving the visitors the composure they had been missing.
McKeever’s pin point cross was met by Stuart Miller at the back post, who made no mistake from close range ensuring them all 3 points.
Autosmart man of the match was Mark McKeever.
