Local charities are to benefit from a special charity pro-am tournament at Enmore Park near Bridgwater.

THE cream of the West & South Wales PGA professionals will converge on Enmore Park Golf Club for a special charity pro-am tournament.

Former Enmore Park member and now Brean Golf Club’s director of golf, Andrew March is the PGA regional captain this year and has introduced a captain’s charity which is raising money for two local causes.

The first of those is the SW branch of CLAPA (Cleft Lip and Palate Association), who helped Andrew and his family after his son was diagnosed with the condition before he was born in November last year.

Little Logan has already had one operation and has another looming in the coming months to start the repair process to his lip and palate.

The second beneficiary is Musgrove Park’s Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. PGA regional secretary Glenn Ross’ youngest son Harry was looked after for the first seven weeks of his life by the unit in Taunton. Together Andrew and Glenn quickly joined forces and the TeeUp4Tots concept was born.

Some proven stars from various European tours will be taking part with Enmore Park’s David Dixon being joined by Minehead’s John Bickerton, both former winners on the European tour.

George Ryall, who has tasted success on the seniors tour is also on the start list, along with another seniors tour player in Tony Lawrence, a former course record holder at Enmore.

They are joined by the West’s most prolific winner, former PGA play-off champion, Michael Watson and the standard of golf on show is guaranteed to be of the highest quality.

Play gets underway at 9am when the first of the 34 teams set off and spectators are welcome to attend with entry being free of charge.

In the evening, before the presentations take place, everyone present will be able to witness a spectacular trick shot show performed by former world trick shot champion Paul Barrington, who for one night only, is joining forces again with his old friend and Burnham & Berrow professional David Haines.

Again, this event is free to attend and will take place on the practice ground at about 7.30pm. Many other events are also planned for the day with auctions, raffles, a chance to beat the pro being amongst them.

The aim for TeeUp4Tots is to raise £10,000, which will be split equally between the two charities.
