CHEDDAR Tennis Club held a successful open junior singles tournament during half term for 13 to 16-year-olds.

The four-day event, supported by the LTA, attracted players from across the west country and South Wales.

The standard of play was very high, with a number of local club coaches and the LTA’s tennis development manager for Somerset and Dorset present to witness some entertaining and keenly fought matches.

The most successful player was Millfield pupil Max Darrington who won both boys’ 14U and 16U grade 4 events. For the girls, Cheddar’s own Amy Rossiter triumphed in the girls’ 16U event.

Cheddar Tennis Club is running coaching courses for all levels of children and adults including a three-day Easter holidays course for juniors. New club members are welcome, whether for coaching, social tennis or league matches.
