Fencer Luke Mason triumphed in the final of the British Cadet Fencing Championships held in Nottingham.
Sixteen-year-old Luke Mason had an amazing weekend competing in the British Cadet and Junior Fencing Championships in Nottingham.
Luke started well in the cadet competition, winning four of his five pool matches, before winning all his direct elimination bouts to reach the final.
This was a tense match with Luke three points down in the first minute, before a lot of doubles were scored. Luke remained patient and kept the pressure on his opponent and only attacked when he was sure he would score a single hit.
This he did and levelled the score again. His opponent started to get worried and made some big attacks which Luke countered and gained the lead. He comfortably adapted well under pressure and turned the tables to run out a 15-12 winner.
The following day he was up against the juniors and enjoyed a good start, winning four out of five pools again and got through to the last 16. This he only lost by just one point, his opponent going on to win the title.
There is a more than even chance that Luke will be selected for the GBR Cadet squad.
