Epee fencer Luke Mason won a silver medal at the British Youth Championships held in Sheffield.

Luke Mason took part in the British Youth Championships in Sheffield, gaining a silver medal in the epee event.

He fenced foil on the Saturday coming 25th, but on the Sunday he fenced epee. Luke won all his pool fights becoming first seed. Nearly all his DE fights were extremely tough, but Luke coped with the pressure to reach the final. This was against an old adversary from Plymouth who he beat last year.

The fight started well for Luke scoring with some well-timed hits, gaining a five-point lead, but in the second round his opponent caught up and after a lot of doubles was two points ahead bringing the score 14-12, before Luke re-focused and evened the score to 14-all. Luke’s next attack missed, while his opponent countered, scored and won the gold medal.

This is Luke’s finest achievement to date gaining a silver medal in this national event.
