Weston fencer Luke Mason retained his Under-14 epee Gloucestershire County Championship title.

LUKE Mason, aged 12, and a pupil at Broadoak Computing and Mathematics College, competed for the boy’s Under-14 epee in the Gloucestershire County Championship and retained his title.

In an administration mix-up, he was also included in the Under-16 epee, so not only was he fencing bigger and stronger opponents, he had a shorter weapon as well, giving him a reach disadvantage.

However, this did not deter Luke and he fenced with his usual style and courage to finish in third place. This was a great outcome and also gave him valuable experience for his upcoming British Youth Championship match in May.

Luke trains at Churchill Fencing Club on Wednesday evenings (7-9pm). Contact Des Sloyan on 01934 852627 for more information.
