Lympsham lost to Uphill Castle 2nd XI off the last ball of the match in a gripping local derby.

LYMPSHAM hosted neighbours Uphill Castle seconds and lost by three wicket off the last ball of the game.

The home side got off to the worst possible start losing both Dave Luff and Gary Hutton in the first three overs to leave them on 2-2. However, Jason Parsons and Jack Luff put on 67 before Parsons was caught behind for 43.

Luff passed his 50 off 63 balls, but was caught a few balls later. With the score on 118-4 after 25 overs, Lympsham were set for a positive last 20 overs. Hayden Tuttiett looked in superb form, punishing anything loose, while being supported at the other end by Tom Gooding.

Gooding made 19 before being caught, and this brought Rich Ford to the crease. Together with Tuttiett, the pair accelerated the run rate. Ford finished 39 not out, but it was Lympsham Concrete man of the match Hayden Tuttiett who stole the show in the last 10 overs, finishing on 76 from just 55 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, with Lympsham finishing on 245-7.

In reply, Lympsham applied pressure early on and ensured the first 13 overs went for just 25 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Wickets came at regular intervals, with Matt Mitchell (2-29), Liam Morris (1-47) and Adam Micklewright (2-51) getting the breakthroughs to leave Uphill 57-5 at the halfway stage.

However, as the rain started to fall, the game started to swing the other way. Tommy Llewellyn (81) and Ian Tasker (80) batted very well, and with the Lympsham bowlers and fielders struggling with the wet ball, the game was in the balance.

Both batsmen were eventually removed, but this wasn’t enough to stop them crossing the line off the last ball of the innings.

This was Lympsham’s first defeat of the season, but with other results also working in there favour, they are just four points off the top of the league, and travel to table-toppers Long Sutton on Saturday looking to bounce back.

Lympsham 2nd XI stopped a losing run with a well-earned victory against Belvedere 2nds.

After winning the toss, Lympsham batted first and scored a respectable 197, thanks to a fine 82 from Andy Hall and a solid 50 from Rod Simpson.

In reply, Belvedere lost quick wickets and were eventually dismissed for 165, thanks to some smart catches and 3-36 from Mark Russ. Man of the match, sponsored by the Indian Massala in Bleadon, was Andy Hall.
