Lympsham 1st XI played two league fixtures last weekend and lost them both.

Lympsham 1st XI played two fixtures last weekend due to a re-arranged game and first welcomed Minehead 2nd XI to the pavilion on Saturday.

Batting first, Lympsham started well, hitting 30 from the first six overs, but on a bouncy wicket, the visitors managed to temper the scoring rate and eventually had both Lympsham openers out before the drinks break.

Jason Parsons set about the attack, hitting an entertaining 68 alongside Felix Grandfield, who also batted well for his 28. With a flurry of late boundaries, Lympsham did well to take maximum batting points with a score of 202-6 at the close of the innings.

In reply, Minehead made steady progress, but with Lympsham going two men down in the field, the gaps were there to be exploited and despite some committed bowling from Dan Berry (1-26), the visitors chased down the total with four overs to spare, finishing on 206-7.

The next day, North Newton were the visitors and batting first again, Lympsham saw off the opening bowlers well with Dave Luff in great form.

He was supported by the aggression of Nathan James who scored 37 in his last game of the season, and Felix Grandfield again with a spirited 25. Luff batted through the entire innings to finish undefeated on 85 with the total of 188-7 at tea.

The visitors quickly set about the target, but a couple of quick wickets from Sam Poole (2-26) in his last game of the season and some sharp fielding from Luff, gave Lympsham some hope of causing an upset.

It was not to be though as North Newton survived the scare and cruised to victory, finishing on 191-6.

Lympsham 2nd XI travelled to high-flying Spaxton and did well to restrict their in-form hosts to 190 all out on a bouncy pitch.

Pick of the bowlers was Simon Bailey with 4-15 from his eight overs, supported well by Rod Simpson, who took 2-22.

In reply, the Lympsham top order collapsed for just 35 runs and it was left to Simpson (20) and Bailey (41 nout out) to rescue the innings and t gain some valuable batting points as Lympsham fell short of the target at just 116-7.
