Lympsham fell 53 runs short in their latest league match at Wells.

Lympsham could not quite manage the chase of 263-7 set by Wells, falling short by 53 runs.

The Lympsham bowlers stuck to the early and medium task well and important wickets taken by Dan Berry (3-35) and Tom Ferns (2-45) restricted momentum. But the last 10 over charge took the target far higher than looked on the cards.

Openers Dave Luff and Gabriel Counsell started up with the required rate of six an over and the mantle was carried on superbly by Tom Counsell (52) and Felix Grandfield (45).

The target was well within grasp until Dougie Denton ran himself out for 19 and the lower middle order could not maintain the eight-an-over required and finished on 210 all out.

Lympsham Concrete man of the match went to Dan Berry.

The 2nd XI lined up against an in-form Wells 2nd XI and batted first on a bouncy, dry pitch.

The openers made good initial progress and were followed by a third wicket partnership of 80 between Rod Simpson (23) and skipper Stuart Bruce, who hit nine fours and a six for his 52.

When both wickets fell in a short period with the score on 136, the Lympsham middle order failed to capitalise and the side could only reach 178-9 at tea.

In reply, the Wells openers showed good patience against opening bowlers Mark and Andy Russ and put on 75 for the first wicket.

After drinks, they accelerated the scoring rate and the total always looked in reach, despite a brace of wickets for Simon Pilgrim (2-34) and skipper Bruce (2-36).

Wells eventually hit the winning runs in the 38th over, taking 34 points and retained their fourth place in the league table.

Man of the match sponsored by the Indian Massala in Bleadon was Stuart Bruce.
