Lympsham defeated Huntspill and District by just one run in an enthralling encounter.

LYMPSHAM hosted Huntspill and District on a pitch which favoured the bowlers. Lympsham openers Dave and Jack Luff both made solid starts to the innings, but both departed for 18, before Tom Gooding fell for 15.

Wickets fell at regular intervals leaving the home side 83-5 after 27 overs. Hayden Tuttiett (46) played a valuable innings alongside Matt Mitchell (24) on their way to pushing Lympsham to 132.

However, when Tuttiett departed, runs were hard to come by. The last wickets fell cheaply for just 18 runs, as Lympsham struggled to 150 all out.

Lympsham came out from tea with purpose and broke through in the 10th over when Matt Mitchell (1-31) brushed the off stump to get Lympsham up and running. Huntspill re-built well with a strong partnership taking them to 91-1. Jack Luff (3-38) came back on to spark new life into the home side.

Lympsham Concrete man of the match Jules Froud was introduced into the attack and bowled precisely to rip through Huntspill. His figures of 5-26 showed great character to leave the visitors 126-7.

The home side fought hard for the win and when Luff took a good low catch, the away side were sweating on 140-9. A strong over late on left the visitors needing just two runs to win from the remaining four overs.

The responsibility of the crucial over was given to Adam Micklewright, with little room for manoeuvre the pressure was on, but he bowled the last batsman as Lympsham got over the line winning by just one run.

On Saturday, Lympsham face a tricky test at Wellington, but will need to go a long way to replicate this thrilling finale.
