WESTON-S-MARE 1

A DETERMINED Weston pulled off their second Blue Square South double and their third away win of the season thanks to a magnificent defensive display at the Accord Beveree Stadium.

This was Weston’s first win in four visits to Hampton and they went into the game missing Matt Villis, Nat Pepperell, Sahr Kabba and Marcus Duharty, all out injured.

Playing down the slope in the first half, Weston conceded two corners in the first four minutes and they were rarely out of their half, but despite all this pressure, Hampton failed to trouble keeper Lloyd Irish.

Against the run of play Weston scored the vital goal on 22 minutes when a long clearance by Irish was controlled by Kane Ingram wide on the right. He then made some ground and unleashed a shot from 25 yards on a narrow angle which left home keeper standing still.

Hampton, trying to build on their midweek 3-0 beating of Chelmsford City, began to dominate with Charlie Moone hitting the base of a post on 23 minutes and four minutes later Francis Quarm hit the Weston crossbar. Moone had the ball in the Weston net on 34 minutes, but was denied by an offside flag.

In a rare Weston attack, straight from the clearance, Jamie Price’s cross was cut out by Lovett as Craig Laird junior closed in. On the stroke of half-time, Weston’s Ben Kirk received a nasty kick to his ankle. The referee signalled for a stretcher, but thankfully Kirk recovered, but as he walked to the sideline he was shown a yellow card for dissent, annoyed the official did not award him a free kick.

For the second half, Weston were rarely out of their territory with Hampton forcing two more corners. Irish made a superb save on 64 minutes to deal with skipper Ian Hodges’ downward header and a minute, Price crucially cleared off his line from Moone’s effort.

Apart from those two attempts, Hampton failed to trouble Irish, thanks to a dogged display by man of the match Weston skipper Craig Rand, Price, Martin Slocombe, and Jamie Laird.
