All three sections of Wedmore Golf Club were in action this week, kicking off with the Seniors in their monthly medal.

Conditions were by no means perfect but this did not seem to worry many of the players, particularly in Division One.

This was won by Moly McMillan with a five under par 65, but only winning by virtue of a better back nine than Mark Cross who had matched his score.

Steve Lawrence was a shot back in third place.

Ian Sentance won Division Two with a nett 67, chased hard by runner-up Martin Blackmore who finished a shot behind as Graham Clifford took third place on 70.

Division Three saw yet another close finish with Dennis Howard winning on 68 with countback being required to sort out the places.

Brian Kidd took second, with Alasdair McDonald third after both scored 70.

Division Four was even closer with Gordon Risk taking first spot on 68 followed by Geoff Brooks who beat Peter Jones for second place after both scored 69.

The Ladies moved to Tuesday this week to avoid the Bank Holiday weekend and played a Stableford, where better than par was needed to win.

Lyn Bird achieved this in Division One, scoring 38 points which put her three ahead of Maggie Tolchard who beat Liz Hill on countback.

In Division Two, Sue McDonald also scored 38 to win, two ahead of second-placed Fran McMillan with Marion Warren-Smith another couple of points back in third.

There was also a very close finish in Division Three with Karen Clark winning on countback from Jill Cornelius after both scored 37. Janet Robson scored 35 to take third.

The worst of the weather came for the club Stableford on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Mark Earwaker won Division One with a level par 36 points which put him a point ahead of Jim Vearncombe with Bill Lander another point behind in third.

Sentance went one better than this, winning Division Two on 37 with Marcello Di Mascio taking the runners-up spot on countback from Marc Large after both scored 36.

Nick Smith had the best men’s score of 40 points to win Division Three by two from Ian Bunn who in turn was two ahead of third-placed David Bennett.

Best score of the day, though , came in the Ladies Section with Nicola Stevenson scoring 41 points for a five-point win over Ann Dixon, who beat Alison Dodkin into third place on countback.
