Oldmixon & Uphill Karate member Gemma Cross took two gold medals at the Western Karate Union Spring Championships at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

THERE were nearly 500 entries from all over Britain taking part in the Western Karate Union Spring Championships at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

Competitors travelled from as far away as Scotland, Sunderland, Devon, London, Midlands and Wales to take part.

Local students from Oldmixon & Uphill Karate put up some great performances and were successful in winning a variety of medals.

Results - Gemma Cross (16-17 years Kumite) gold; 16+ Black Belt Kata gold. Chloe Carchrie (13-15 yrs Kumite) silver. Nabeel Uddin (Under-16 Black Belt Kata) bronze. Aimee Carchrie (8&9 years Kumite (bronze). Sam Cross (10-11 years Kata) bronze. Josh White (10-11 years Kata (bronze). Harry Littlewood (5-7 years Kumite (bronze).

The other Oldmixon & Uphill competitors taking part and gaining invaluable experience were: James Lenaghan, Paige Hoddinott, Amar Kolattu, Louie Bush Evans, Aaron Kolattu, Phoebe Phillips and Sam Phillips.

The club trains at Oldmixon School on Wednesdays between 6.30-8pm, and on Fridays at Uphill Village Hall at 7.30pm and 8.45pm. A further session is available at Locking Village Hall.
