MEMBERS of Clevedon Karate Kai and its sister club Esporta attended the Western Karate Union Nationals at Hutton Moor, Weston.

MEMBERS of Clevedon Karate Kai and its sister club Esporta attended the Western Karate Union Nationals at Hutton Moor, Weston.

With 457 entries, this was the biggest event the association has held. Clevedon and Esporta sent in a contingent of students, many attending a competition for the first time.

Clevedon and Esporta had three teams in the kata. Both junior teams, Ivana Purnell, Carla-Louise Diamond and Elizabeth Haines and a boys' team of Matthew and Christopher Hutchings along with Harry Palmer took bronze medals.

The senior team of Cary Frost, Mark Christie and Chelsie Ware went a step further and took silver.

Ruth Dives in her first competition for 13 year olds, won a credible bronze in her kata category. Chelsie also went on to take a bronze in kata individuals and another silver in the kumite.
