Team Mendip Red Sox Under-12s returned to winning ways with a narrow victory over Wedmore.

TEAM Mendip Red Sox Under-12s were looking to get back to winning ways at home to Wedmore after two consecutive draws.

Wedmore however, went into the game full of confidence after a convincing win the week before, but were soon on the back foot.

Nikita Monk was causing problems for Wedmore’s defenders up front, while Mendip’s Tara Young was controlling the midfield.

Mendip’s breakthrough came when Jennie Habbits capitalised on a excellent through ball from Emily Mitchell to find the back of the net putting Mendip 1-0 up. Mendip continued to press with some driving runs from Annabel Cunningham, but could not find the second goal.

Wedmore came back into the match and defenders Maisie Lynn, Bayley Farrow and keeper Phoebe Hughes had to be alert to protect the scoreline.

Mendip held on for the three points, which now puts pressure on the teams directly above them with three games to play.

The Frankie and Benny’s girl of the game went to Habbits.
