He is already through to the final of the triples, having partnered David Stott and Richard Crawford to a resounding, 25-shot victory in the semi, during which they notched up four fours and two fives.

? RICHARD Crawford was elected chairman of Clarence Park Bowling Association at a well-attended AGM on Saturday. The retired aerospace engineer succeeded Sue Foster, who was thanked for her work over the last two years.

The association, the umbrella body which looks after the greens for the three clubs based at Clarence Park, also has a new treasurer, Kaye Bailey. She takes over from Alan Jones.

Members of the Clarence men’s and ladies’ clubs and Wessex Ladies voted for a 15 increase in their annual subscriptions to the association.

The new figure of 105 is a 16.7 per cent increase on last year’s subscription and the meeting was told that it was necessary because of the continually increasing costs of maintaining the three greens at Clarence Park, which stages the two big Weston open bowls tournaments every year.

Other officers elected – secretary: Margaret Travis; assistant treasurer: Mike Skyrme; greens manager: George Cooper; assistant greens manager: Gerald Barlow.
