Mike picks up a bronze

A RELATIVE newcomer to one of Britain's fastest-growing sports has done himself and Weston proud in a major national race. Mike Harding, of Royal Sands, came third in his age group in this year's London Triathlon

A RELATIVE newcomer to one of Britain's fastest-growing sports has done himself and Weston proud in a major national race.Mike Harding, of Royal Sands, came third in his age group in this year's London Triathlon.The banker beat off competition from 380 other entrants aged between 40 and 44 to secure one of the top three placings.The 42-year-old completed the arduous course, which involved a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride and a 10k run, in just over 2hrs 12 minutes.More than 9,000 people took part in the 10th London Triathlon which took place recently.Mike did his first triathlon just three years ago.Last summer he represented Great Britain at the European Championships in Switzerland. Next year he is hoping to qualify for the same competition again and travel to Copenhagen to race against some of Europe's most talented triathletes.
