WESTON Tennis Club, based in Neva Road opposite the train station, is launching a series of eight-week mini coaching initiatives targeted at youngsters aged five to 16 in the locality, commencing on April 20 with sessions available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. The programme follows the recent �100,000 renovation of the club's courts, floodlighting and clubhouse facilities and aims to provide opportunities for budding junior players of all abilities or complete beginners.Mini tennis is split into three categories: red ball teaches five to seven years the very basics using soft balls; orange ball is aimed at teaching eight and nine-year-olds to rally and the slightly harder green ball covers rallying and improved technique for 10-year-olds. Throughout each stage the emphasis is on having fun in addition to building the right skills that will provide the basis for a lifetime hobby or competitive play. All rackets and balls are provided.The club's junior coaching programme extends right up to age 16 as the over-10s are eased gently into the full game with larger rackets and full size courts. Club coach Mike Rakosi said: "I'm excited by this new programme of coaching events in Weston. The aim is to have fun and maximise the potential of all participants regardless of ability. Who knows, perhaps we will unearth a future Wimbledon champion from Weston in the process."The club subscribes to the child protection scheme and parents and guardians are welcome to stay and watch their children participate. The price of the eight-week courses ranges between �28 and �32, depending on age group.
