NORTH Somerset AC clubmates Sophie Thomas and Chloe Buck made the eight-hour round trip to take part in the minithon competition at Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

Sophie Contested the 60m (8.7), 200m (29.5) and shot (6.15m) by winning her sprints and placing second in the shot. This was enough to guarantee her a top four position from 79 girls, and a gold medal. Sophie's 200m time breaks inter-county standards, her 60m time still places her joint sixth in the UK and her shot is a joint first in the South West rankings with team mate Dani Fisher.

Chloe's best performance of the day came in the 600m where a clever time raced saw her win her heat in a new personal best of 1m 55seconds. Chloe amassed enough points to secure a bronze award, no mean feat as the previous day she represented Avon in the South West Schools cross-country championships in Truro.

Winter training for these girls is already paying off, and with the track and field season just a month away they can look forward to a summer of good results.
