Uphill Badminton Club's B team had a tough start to the new season with a trip to Keynsham.

It was a tough trip to Keynsham for Uphill B team’s season opener.

The mixed all went the way of Frys in two games. Emily Page-Symonds and Rebecca Falwasser then got Uphill on the board winning a close three-setter.

Both then teamed up with Caroline Higgins. Emily and Caroline lost two tight games before Becky and Caroline lost the first, won the second 21-19 before agonisingly losing the decider 23-21.

The men’s was equally close. Billy Fear and Rob Morray won 21-15 before falling away in the next two. Billy and Tom Miller lost out 19 and 18, before Rob and Tom turned it on taking the last rubber 20 and 16. Special mention for Tom on his B team debut.

Uphill travelled to Clevedon for two junior league matches that could barely have been closer.

The Under-12 team of Marcus Pan Vincent Tsang Aidan Chacko and Riley Badman all played well. In the singles, Uphill got off to a strong start going 7-1 up, before winning 12-4.

The doubles proved much closer and Clevedon edged the doubles element 12-8, leaving Uphill as overall 20-16 winners.

The Under-14s was also a thriller and all four singles were close rubbers. Zion Chen lost to Zoe 14 and 13, Shuoshuo Jin won 12 in the third, Charlie Marsh lost 14 and 12, while Lewis Conroy lost 8 and 10, putting Clevedon 3-1 up.

Into the doubles and Uphill hit back. Zion and Shuo Shuo won 12 and 7 before Shuo Shuo and Lewis lost an epic 14 in the third. Uphill took the next two rubbers in the decider to draw level at four each.

Zion and Lewis won 11 and 6 to put Uphill 5-4 up, before Clevedon took the last to ensure a five-all draw. On countback Clevedon edged the games 13-12.
