More boxers wanted at Burnham club

Titans Boxing Club in Burnham are looking for new members.

TITANS Boxing Club meets on Wednesday evenings at Burnham Area Youth Centre and is looking for more members.

The weekly sessions start at 7.30-8.30 pm, the objective being fitness or competition. The group has existed for around two years now and accept from 16 years upwards. Contact John Saunders on 01278 793236 for more information.

? WESTON Amateur Boxing Club brings its season to an end with its presentation evening on Sunday.

Special guests will be Weston’s Mayor and Mayoress, whose grandson boxes for the club and has been nominated for a variety of awards. The event will take place at Weston St John’s from 7-9pm and is open to all supporters of boxing.

The club will also be looking forward to receiving a cheque for �300 of sponsorship for next season from R&N Roofing at this event.

The club will be jointly holding with Weston Warriors Boxing Club, three local tournaments next season - a Round Table dinner event at the Winter Gardens on November 25, Pugilism on the Pier on January 21 and the annual open tournament at Hutton Moor on March 31.

Doors will open for training for the new season on September 6 (7pm) and by that time, the club hope to have more news on the possibility of building its new gym.

Also to note, live on Channel 5 on Saturday evening is an exciting British heavyweight title fight between Derek Chisora and challenger 6’ 9” Tyson Fury, whose sparring partner was Weston’s talented professonal boxer Stephen Bodger.

Also on Saturday, Weston ABC will be at the Go 4 Life Community Festival at Hans Price Sports Centre from 11am-3pm, for those who wish to get a feel of what the club is all about.
