Will Burns returned from Oulton Park with a pair of podium finishes in the latest rounds of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup.

Will Burns produced a star performance at Oulton Park with a pair of podium finishes in the latest rounds of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup, results that ensure he cements second place in the championship standings.

With only a best result of fifth in his previous two visits to Oulton in the SuperCup, Burns headed into the weekend determined to get a podium finish at his bogey circuit and continue an impressive start to the season that featured four podiums in the first six races.

After fine-tuning the car’s set-up with the Douglas Motorsport squad throughout Friday practice, Burns put himself in contention at the front of the grid in qualifying with the fourth best time, his effort of 1.26.674, being just five hundredths of a second shy of the top three.

Burns was confident of moving forwards in race one and a positive start in his Ginetta G55 saw him put Jamie Orton under immense pressure for third, which paid off on lap five when Burns produced a superb move down the inside into Old Hall corner.

Quickly shaking Orton off his tail, Burns was able to focus on hunting down Mark Davies in second and after hassling him for a number of laps, he forced his rival into a mistake on the final lap and pounced to take second place at the flag.

That result put Burns’ Cases Ltd, MH Automation and Eurocams-backed machine second on the grid for race two, a position he held from lights-to-flag with a composed drive to record his sixth podium of the season so far and the 21st of his SuperCup career.

The Oulton podium double has increased Burns’ lead over third in the standings to 20 points ahead of the next outing at Snetterton in Norfolk on July 30-31, which comes at the end of a lengthy eight-week break during which Burns will be getting married.

Will said: “I’m pleased to consolidate my second place in the championship this weekend with two more podium finishes, especially with them coming around a circuit that I’ve considered one of my bogey tracks in recent years.

“The partnership with Douglas Motorsport seems to be getting better and better at the moment, and we’ll be working hard over the two month break to ensure we can go to Snetterton, a circuit I like, and really challenge for the race wins.”
