DRIVING the Permashine-sponsored Ford Escort RS, Weston rally driver Dave Harris ended his season as ASWMC (Association of South West Motor Clubs) Loose Surface Champion, having previously won the title in 1986. The 11-round championship featured a series of forest-based events held at various venues around the region, with points allocated for class positions rather than overall results, Harris competing in the up to two-litre category. After a couple of disappointing outings mid-season, Harris battled right to the end and went into the final round with an 18-point advantage. Knowing he just had to post a respectable performance to win, he drove a calculated rally and was pleased to find himself over four minutes ahead of his nearest class rival at the finish, the result securing him the title by 13 points."I'm delighted to have won the Championship again, especially as the first time I did it was 20 years ago," said Harris. "The result would not have been possible without the tremendous support and help from my team and sponsors, especially Permashine."Harris was keen to point out that the preparation of his car has been a key factor throughout the season, as reliability is an important aspect towards achieving success in rallying.Managing director of Permashine, Trevor Hawkins was equally as pleased with the result: "As a local company, we are keen to support local sportsmen and, with our products associated to the motor trade, we see motorsport as a logical way of promoting them."Harris is now considering his 2007 campaign and hopes to defend his title, together with support from Permashine. For further information on Permashine products call 01934 818433.
