SKITTLES - THE second leg of the President's Cup took place on Saturday night between the Central and Wrington Vale Leagues at Hornets club.

THE second leg of the President's Cup took place on Saturday night between the Central and Wrington Vale Leagues at Hornets club.

After winning the first leg by 15 pins the Central got of to a great start with a 41 hand down on the first set going on to win the set by five pins. Now 20 pins down in the tie Wrington had to try and pull some pins back in the second set, but thanks to some excellent skittles from Paul Stewart, scoring 59 the Central pulled a further 17 pins. Wrington started the third set strongly, thanks to their captain Andy Harris scoring 58 and went on to win the set by three pins.

All the Central had to do in the last set was to tap, tap, tap and would bring the side home to victory, and that is what they did, going on to win the match by six pins and the tie over two legs by 21 pins. The two legs were played in a great sporting atmosphere and a great time was had by all,

Central 594 (Paul Stewart 59, Ian Thompson 54), Wrington Vale 588 (Andy Harris 58, Keith Buck 55).

Friday night saw the Conservative Bs up against the Tornadoes in Division 3 of the Central League.

The Con Bs had had a bad recent run, last week going out of two cup competitions. There was determination within the squad to stop the rot, especially as the league race is hotting up, too.

Set 1 was an extremely close affair, eventually being drawn 104 pins each. Martin Murray (Con B's) hitting 39 was the only notable score.

Set 2 again was nip and tuck. Con Bs winning it in the end by five pins, 108-103. Alan Newland (Con Bs) 37, Len Lewis (Tornadoes) 37 and J Sherwood (Tornadoes) 37 being top scorers.

Set 3 was the defining set of the game as Con Bs could do little wrong. The set was won by 32 pins, 135-103. Top scorers were K Driscoll 41, John Cozens 49 (one spare) and M Coleman 45 all of the Con B.

Set 4 was again close, but the Con Bs came out victorious 122-117. Dave Pearce hit 46 and Andy Griffiths 39, both of Con B, C Laity 41 and G Horler 45 top scored for Tornadoes. This concluded the game for a well earned 13 points to one victory. This result keeps Con Bs in the top two of Division 3.
