A NEW boxing club is opening in Portishead on Tuesday evening, with former Mycon ABC coach Bud Mott at the helm.

Mott, a full Amateur Boxing Association of England coach and schools boxing tutor with years of experience in coaching and training felt it was time to open up a club in his home town, as they have not had a club in Portishead for at least 20 years of which Mott was a member.

Having coached boxers at a good standard at Mycon ABC and having to shut the club in September because of work commitments was an extremely hard decision to do. "But changes in circumstances changed again and I had to get back into the sport that I love," said Mott.

The club will be based at the Portishead Fitness Hub at Kestrel Court, Harbour Road. The opening night is Tuesday, January 19, from 8pm. This night will be for anyone over 16 years of age. Junior night will be on Thursdays from 7.30pm and this is for kids aged nine and up, hoping to get two Sunday night sessions soon for both age groups.

The cost will be 10 membership and administration fees per year and 3 per session for seniors and 2.50 per session for juniors.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Bud on 07736335957. You do not have to be a wannabe Ricky Hatton to join. If it is just fitness you want, then give Bud a call.

The club is looking for sponsorship from companies or individuals to help with running cost. The club also thank Portishead Fitness Hub for their support and encouragement.
