Avenue Tennis Club coach and LTA referee Barry Ramsden and Linda Matthews ran a Grade 5 tournament at the club recently.

AVENUE Tennis Club coach and LTA referee Barry Ramsden and Linda Matthews ran a Grade 5 tournament at the club, sponsored and supported by the Royal Bank of Canada, the LTA and the tennis club.

The tournament is new to Somerset and is aimed at club and team players. The event was entered by 14 players (five from Avenue, three juniors - Rob Horler, Billy May, Josh Lutner - and two adults - Rob Sweet and Colin Christison.

Both Rob Horler and Rob Sweet did the Avenue proud by making it to the semi-finals, but both lost to experienced opposition. Neil Driver from Millfield School played Colin Selby and won 6-0, 6-3.

The next monthly social tennis tournament is on May 5 to coincide with the FA Cup final, with the tennis starting at 12noon and finishing before kick-off. The next social event, at the tennis club is an Italian night on May 12 from 7pm.
