Thirty-two Weston Athletic Club members smashed their personal best times at the latest Weston Prom Run.
Perfect racing conditions paved the way for the 373 runners who lined up for the second race in the current Weston Prom Run series.
The five-mile flat route out and back twice along the length of Weston’s seafront is a favourite for runners hoping to beat their previous best time.
October’s race did not disappoint the 88 Weston Athletic Club members who swelled the race field, and 32 of them went on to run their fastest times.
Jules Pflaum and Kieron Summers finished third woman and third man overall in 32.14 and 26.57. Chris McMillan crossed the line four seconds behind Kieron, and Matt Dell finished sixth overall in 27.20. The second and third club female positions went to Phil Richards and Niki Fulstow who finished in 33.59 and 35.24 respectively.
Meanwhile, in the one-mile junior race, it was the girls who shone brightest this month. Connie Ballentine won the race in 6.02, Maddy Soper finished third overall in 6.14, and Stephanie Brooks fifth overall in 6.19.
Louie Brunsdon was the first boy over the line in 6.05, just three seconds behind Connie. Luke Ashurst finished fourth overall in 6.16 and Ben Jones in 6.34.
On Sunday, club members took on a race of a different nature when they tackled the 16-mile Exmoor Stagger, an extremely challenging off-road race which starts just above sea level in Minehead, features 3,600ft of climb and follows a beautifully hilly route across Exmoor including a climb to the top of Dunkery Beacon.
Josh Harris knocked a colossal 16 minutes off his time from last year’s event to finish in 2.15.23. Phil Richards was first club female in 2.29.12.
Matt Wheeler also bettered last year’s time and completed the course in 2.21.04. Tony Hogg was third club male in 2.30.14. Niki Fulstow was second club female in 2.47.01 and Sarah Styles finished in 2.59.07.
Entry closes at midnight on October 28 for this year’s Christmas Cracker 10k race on the seafront, beach and through Uphill. This year’s event takes place on December 11, and is set to be the largest one yet, with nearly 2,500 runners registered already.
There is also a 2km junior race taking place on the same morning. More information and online entry for both events is available at: www.westonac.co.uk/christmascracker
