PETER Trego, who up until now has spent the winter playing cricket in Australia for Casey-South Melbourne in the Victoria Cricket Association Premier Grade League, has enjoyed considerable success recently with both bat and ball.

The all-rounder from Weston, who earlier in the year made his mark playing for the England Lions said in his latest message back from sunny Oz: “It really has been a great few weeks for Casey-South Melbourne, with three wins in a row positioning ourselves nicely inside the top eight, to hopefully kick on and make finals.”

Regarding his own form Pete said: “Personally I have been hitting a lot of balls in practice with an eye on the West Indies tournament and because of that I’ve hit some great form myself scoring 165 runs in the last three T20s in relatively low scoring games, so that’s been great.

“I have also been bowling pretty well too, only going for 51 runs in 14.3 overs, while picking up five wickets.”

The 29-year-old went on: “I can’t wait to get back and get stuck into this tour with Somerset, the only negative with going away is feeling a little out of it with the lads, so I am looking forward to seeing everyone and re-confirming what a strong dressing room we have.

“I’m also hugely motivated to improve my all-round game for the 2011 season and given an extra push after being left out of all the ECB squads.

“This was a disappointment for me after thinking my year with the Lions had been a success, but as we all know the game will always bite back to keep you working hard, and as I hope all in Somerset know that’s for sure what I will do.”
