The event, hosted by Weston Bay Water Sports Club, is the first of eight races fought at four locations throughout the UK.

These races will determine who represents Britain at the World Championships in Vichy, France in September.

The races kicked off on Saturday morning, with competitors setting off from Knightstone Slipway throughout the weekend.

Some local racers met with success, including sisters Laura and Hannah Bird, who came second and third place, respectively, in the women's competition.

Weston Bay Water Sports club chairman Steve Benny said: "It was a fantastic weekend, and were happy to see the races back in Weston again, thanks in part to the support of the council and rangers. It was well received by spectators, and we are hoping to do the same again next year."
