NAILSEA and Backwell Rugby Club, aside from playing, has many individuals that constantly work hard to support local charities and create local events that bring the community together.

In July, they hosted one of the biggest beer festivals in the South West and have just presented a cheque to the Children's Hospice South West for 6,000. This was their fifth beer festival and to date have given more than 30,000 to worthwhile charities that greatly benefit from the club's donations.

On Saturday they hosted their third Pink Ladies Day event that supports breast cancer and raised 2,030 and to date raised just under 6,000.

Previous years they have created three calendars that raised over 4,000 for various charities. Over the years the club hosts many events that donate money to the charities and also opens it's doors free of charge for outside groups to use the club for fund raising events such as the Fire-walk and the Children's Hospice quiz nights, etc. They also host one of largest Bonfire Night events in the South West that several thousand people in and around the area look forward to each year.

Incidentally the Pink Ladies Day was sponsored by the Farmhouse Inn and the Upton Inn. The theme was dress as pink as you dare and was won by the Pink Lady Apples. People also turned up in a stretched pink Hummer.

The duo www.myspace.com/ivorycrash played for a record-breaking non-stop five hours for free that kept supporters dancing all night.
