TWO Academy gymnasts from Portishead have been given the opportunity to represent Great Britain.

The yougest GB representative is Libby Lockett who is 10 years of age and a current member of the GB 9-11 squad. Libby has been selected to represent GB at an international training camp in Tirrenia, Italy, later this month. By coming second at the national compulsory grade 3 finals back in May, Libby made the selection criteria.

The second Academy gymnast is Sophie Jameson, who has had her frist junior Under-13 international competition in Spergau, Germany, last month. The best Under13s junior gymnasts from GB, Switzerland, and Germany were present. GB was able to send two teams, GB 1 came first and GB 2 came joint third with Germany.

Sophie has been a member of the Great Britain squad for three years and made the British team by coming fourth in the British Espoir Championships held in June.

As soon as Sophie was back in the gym she was training hard for the British championships apparatus finals. Sophie made beam and floor finals, executed a beautiful floor, but was down on start value, however, the beam was a different story. Sophie looked extremely positive and comfortable on beam, which aided in her being crowned the Espoir national beam champion.
