Portishead Pumas Under-11 girls shared the points in an entertain encounter against Bristol Ladies.

PORTISHEAD Pumas Under-11 girls came away with a well-deserved point against an organised and strong Bristol Ladies side.

The home match, played in heavy mist, started brightly for the improving Portishead side. The hosts took an early lead through Millie Rosenior, who ran on to a perfectly waited pass from Katie Quick and slotted home from 10 yards.

However, Bristol pushed Portishead back in the latter stages of the first-half and their dominance paid off with two goals before the break.

The second half started more of the same for Bristol, who quickly converted a third, but Portishead’s never say die attitude sprung them back into life.

After holding the ball up well in midfield, Becky Hebdich put through Anya Kondru, who coolly finished past the advancing keeper. With the wind in their sails and now full of confidence, Portishead added a third of their own with a fantastic finish from top goal scorer Courtney Bean.

Portishead had stand-in goalkeeper Mia Knight to thank for some outstanding saves and some last-ditch defending from Katie Gaman and Romia Nash saw Portishead gain a well-deserved draw.

Managers Eddie Hebditch and Jo Bean said after the match “the girls showed great character to get back into the game and should be extremely proud how far they have come this season”.
