UPHILL Badminton Club held its annual end of season presentation and skittles evening at the Coach House, Locking and club members had a very enjoyable evening.Mary Palmer presented the trophies to the following, with support from club chairman Eddie Prest - Fantasy Badminton Competition: Becky Halfpenny; Caroline Trophy for most improved junior girl: Kate Robinson; Brown Trophy for most improved junior boy: Sonny Topham; Poole Trophy for the junior sportsperson of the year: Tom Higgins; junior Hot Shot Shield, for the junior winning the most points in the North Somerset League: Tom Higgins.Ladies Doubles: Kate Robinson & Nicole Blunden; runners-up: Christy Langford & Mary Dunn. Mens Doubles: John Hunt & Tom Higgins; Mark Edwards & Grant Kelly. Mixed doubles: Nicky Mills & Mark Edwards; Becky Halfpenny & Steve Mathew.Chris Minchington Shield: Nicky Mills; Christy Langford. Slimeridge Shield: Mark Edwards; Paul Edwards.The Roy Curry Cup, for the club person of the year went to Paul Edwards. Two special awards were given to Paul Edwards and John Hunt for winning all their league rubbers this season. Paul won 28 out of 28 rubbers for the A team in Division 1 and John won 27 out of 27 rubbers for the C team in Division 4Thanks were given to Eddie Prest for the organisation of this season's tournaments and for his duties as MC for the evening. The Uphill Summer Badminton Club has now started meeting on Thursday evenings from 8-10pm at Wyvern Sports Centre and newcomers are welcome.
