Priory defeat the league leaders

PRIORY Rangers Under-16s entered this game against the league leaders on the back of four wins and also knowing they lost their last fixture to Nailsea 9-0.

Nailsea took the lead within five minutes from a corner. Priory dug deep with good midfield play from Joe Reames and Ross Goldstone. They equalised through Jack Hodrien, but the joy was short lived as Nailsea scored from a free kick, deceiving Callum Neate in the Priory goal, who was again in fine form.

This seemed to spur Priory on and good play from Angelo Fagnani carved out the equaliser for Kyle Smith.

After the break, Priory came out with all guns firing and it wasn’t long until they were rewarded for their hard work as Hodrien’s stunning shot flew into the Nailsea net.

As expected, Nailsea put the Priory back four of Ashley Smith, John Hunt, Chris Bridges and Ross Wood under pressure, but the defence remained solid. Priory brought on Joe Cox and Marcus Dudd who battled well.

Then Cox won a free kick around 25 yards from the Nailsea goal and this allowed profootballfives.co.uk man of the match Ben Macaulay to give Priory a 4-2 advantage.

Priory brought on Declan Whittle to help shore things up and they held out to record a superb win and keep them in touch with the top two.

ANOTHER good team performance from Crusaders Under-15s ensured them of back-to-back victories over Cheddar.

It took Crusaders time to settle in the first half, but with Luke Loveridge as anchor man at the back, it gave them the confidence to gather momentum as the first goal was turned in by defender Billy Morrissey from an Aaron Thomas assist. Soon after, Cyrus Moltons’ free kick was netted by Thomas.

The second half saw the wind and rain behind Crusaders and although pitch conditions were becoming difficult, some fine passing football between the midfield of Mike Dancer, Joe Godfrey, Jordan Bolitho, Ryan Elkins and Molton ensued.

This was to be the undoing of Cheddar as Bolitho assisted Molton for the third and Dancer put in for Elkins superb volley for the fourth. Michael Hosey, Jack Bridgman, Callum Wilson and Tom Light were strong and certain with Cheddar’s long ball and set play tactics and this showed when Elkins assisted Bolitho for the fifth and Elkins again for Thomas to make it six.

It was a lapse in concentration from midfield that enabled Cheddar to get one back against the run of play. Kieren White kept up the pressure, but his effort hit the post and it was left to Molton to score the seventh and final goal of the match.

Formula First man of the match went to Michael Dancer.

HUTTON Under-13s followed up last weekend draw with a 3-0 win at home to Nailsea United.

With a few players out through sickness and injury, Hutton drafted in Under-12 striker Fraser Ham, who slotted in at right back and had an excellent game.

Hutton created some early chances with Zak Westwood, Josh Pratt and Nathan James all went close, before Westwood opened the scoring.

On the left side of midfield, Elliott Smith and Alfie Hardy worked tirelessly. Hutton made it 2-0 when Pratt pulled a good save from the Nailsea keeper and Westwood was on hand to grab his second.

This forced Nailsea into action and after breaking through the Hutton defence, keeper Oliver Edwards pulled off a great save. James Difford was unlucky not to score when his powerful drive hit the woodwork.

For the second week running, Hutton’s defence were superb with Stefan Thomson-Rose, Dan Cox and George Thorne all played well.

The second half saw Matthew Jones come on for Elliott and showed some good touches. Good anticipation from Matty Jones paid dividends when he slotted home Hutton’s third.

The A 2 Z Gardening & Tree Maintenance man of the match went to George Thorne.

AFTER only being able to field 10 players the week before, league leaders Banwell Under-15s returned to winning ways with hotshot Harry Hornigold grabbing seven goals.

In wet blustery conditions, both sides did well to control the ball. The defence of Ben Stevens, Dan Butler, Connor Davidson, and Andy Izzard kept the Nomads attacks to a minimum.

Banwell opened the scoring through Hornigold after previously hitting the post. Three more goals from Hornigold followed before Mbali Hanyana got on to the scoresheet with a 25 yard rocket. Nomads pulled a goal back, but Hornigold scored again.

In the second half, Banwell turned the screw mainly down to the committed midfield of Joe Gomm, Issac Boulton, Jordan Graham, Jordan Townsend, and Lewis Brake. Keeper Jack Andrews made a few saves, but was generally a bystander.

More goals arrived via Dale Waite, Boulton and another brace by Hornigold. Special praise must be given to all players who played through the rough conditions, not forgetting referee Joe Newbury, who gave a faultless display.

Banwell’s Royal Mail man of the match was awarded to Hornigold.

AT a rain-swept Hutton Moor, Kewstoke Under-15s secured an empathic 8-2 home win against Berrow Juniors.

Despite Kewstoke dominating the early play, Berrow opened the scoring on the break. James Hodgkinson quickly equalised and this was followed by goals from Syd Camper and Hodgkinson, who added a well deserved second.

Although the defence of Josh Selwyn, Tyler Marshman, Connor Andrew and Michael Deane dominated, Berrow pulled a goal back. The midfield of Jake Groves, Ben Harris, Jordan Sole and Lewis Clamp worked hard and their dominance brought about a goal for Lewis Clamp.

In a tactical switch, Lawrence Mayer came on and put in a solid performance. Whilst in goal, Luke Bryant also gave a confident showing.

The second half carried on in much the same vein as the first with Kewstoke dominating the play. Further goals were added by Camper, Groves, Harris (penalty) and an own goal from a corner.

The SB Fencing man of the match was awarded to Syd Camper.

The Under-10s A team took on Nailsea and went on to win 7-2.

Kewstoke went behind early on, but Ryan Pugh soon equalised, followed by a goal for Jake Manville. After Joel Crinson was brought down just outside the box, he managed to find the net for the third.

Following a late injury in the first half, Kieran Hill came back on and Crinson was able to pick him out which resulted in a good goal for Hill. Then Manville popped up to score his second and Kewstoke’s fifth.

A counter attack from Nailsea saw them grab a goal from a corner, giving Charlie Sweeting in goal no chance. Good play from Mikey Nicholls, Pugh and Mateo Turvey led to a second goal for Pugh.

In the dying minutes of the game, George Creech came back on to play as striker and soon after Andy Page Web Design man of the match Manville laid a generous pass to the waiting Creech to score.

In last week’s game against Cheddar, Ryan Pugh should have been credited with a goal and not Jake Manville as reported.

The Under-10s B team took on a battling Nailsea Athletic in a well contended match. Sam Ford opened the scoring and Ashley Hastewell added a second and third before Nailsea got on the scoresheet. A second from Ford saw Kewstoke 4-1 up at half-time.

Adam Bungay scored the goal of the game with a wonderful solo effort before Ford headed in for his hat-trick. Kewstoke mixed things up a little, pushing Tim Page up front with man of the match Zsimon Swiercrwna replacing him at the back.

Ryan Hill got on the scoresheet after a long spell of Kewstoke possession. Ford scored his fourth after some great play from captain Thomas Perry in midfield. Page and Swiercrwna both played a big part in the ninth goal before Perry rounded off a fine performance with Kewstokes 10th goal.

Not on the scoresheet was goalkeeper Daniel Layden, who was solid throughout. It finished 10-2 to Kewstoke.

Kewstoke Under-14s attacked from the off and many goal scoring chances were missed. Gordano replied with a counter attack, forcing a magnificent save from keeper Matt Saunders.

Gordano piled on the pressure and scored twice in five minutes, but Kewstoke’s Rhys Spurling pulled a goal back just before half-time.

The second half saw some great attacking football from Kewstoke, with Ethan Aylott bringing the score level. Gordano replied with another goal, but Kewstoke piled on the pressure, Jake Sprague managed to score Kewstoke’s third and was unlucky not to get the winner before full time.

WORLE Under-12s played some good passing football, but unfortunately without the end product against Axbridge Saxons.

Some poor defending saw Worle go 3-0 down on after 19 minutes. It could have been four, but for a fine double save by Sam Walkley and some great blocks from his defence.

After the break, Axbridge made it 4-0. A succession of substitutions were made and within seconds, Lucas slid a defence splitting pass to Zac, who smashed the ball into the back of the net. Then Thomas Starr was through on goal, but his shot lacked power. Worle then conceded two late goals to make the final score 6-1.

The man of the match award was a tie on votes between Sam and Lucas and the manager gave the trophy to Sam.
