Two Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club members qualified for the national finals later in the year.

QUAYSIDE Trampoline and Gymnastics Club were well represented this weekend at the trampoline & tumbling regional team finals and NDP qualification event held at the Peterborough Arena.

Four of Quaysides’ trampoline gymnasts were selected to compete as part of the South West regional team with an aim to make it through to the National Development Plan (NPD) finals held later in the year.

First up was the youngest member of the squad, eight-year-old Talia Macrides. Talia travels from her home in Weston to train at the Quayside TGC’s elite facilities in Bridgwater.

Talia wowed the judges with two exceptional routines winning the top spot in the NDP Level 5 girls’ 9-10-year-old age group. Talia won by a convincing 1.7 point lead and was awarded the gold medal as the youngest on her age group.

It looks like Talia is following tradition as her mother and coach, Aurora Necco, was part of the junior and senior ladies’ Great Britain teams.

Aurora said of the win: “We are so proud of our daughter. I now know how nerve wracking it must have been for my parents as it is a whole different ball game when you are watching your own child compete.”

Lottie Brazier was next up in the NDP level 5 women’s 15+ taking seventh place again with two solid routines to the delight of her family and team-mates. It was a close group with Lottie scoring an overall 49.50, only 1.4 behind the first place score of 50.90.

Thirteen-year-old Ryan Cheffey competed in the NDP Level 6 boy’s 13-14 years group and held his nerve for eighth place. Ryan’s parents said that they were exceptionally proud of their sons’ achievement as he only started trampolining just over a year ago.

Daisy-May Ham (17) completed the group with her performances in the top NDP6 women’s 15+ age group holding her own and placing 10th out of the large group of 23 competitors.

Quayside coach, Aurora Necco said: “Our trampolinists did themselves proud today. What amazing results for them all- everyone at Quayside was cheering for them and the atmosphere was great.”

Talia and Lottie will now go forward to compete at the NDP national finals after their top eight performances, which will be held at the International Centre in Telford on July 10-12.
