Woodland Tennis Club put on a charity day for Rally for Bally with many youngsters taking part.
WOODLAND Lawn Tennis Club’s juniors took the lead from the likes of Andy Murray by holding their own Rally for Bally at the club.
The aim was to raise money for Cancer Research in memory of the former British number one, Elena Baltacha who died of liver cancer in May and altogether they managed 478 rallies over the morning.
There was an added incentive of being crowned rally champion by being the junior who had the longest rally. The winners were: Oliver Fuller in the intermediate group for his baseline to baseline rally of 156 strokes; Jenson Gifford in the improver group whose service line to service line rally lasted 171 shots and Finlay Clemons in the starter group who managed a rally of 26.
So far £80 has been raised with more sponsorship money to come.
Club secretary, Annie Buckingham, was delighted with the event. “Our juniors are full of enthusiasm for their tennis and really did themselves proud with their Rally for Bally.”
