Worle Rangers defeat Banwell Reserves 9-2 to record a record victory for the club.

Worle Rangers 9

Banwell Res 2

WORLE Rangers notched up a record win in this Division 5 fixture over Banwell Reserves.

The home side’s defence of Chris Horsnell, Matt Wilson, Jake Hannam and Marc Trewern stood firm early on. Worle keeper Nathan Royce pulled off a fantastic save and five minutes later Matt Dove fed fellow striker Troy Hannam to open the scoring.

Banwell struck back with an equaliser, but Rangers upped their game and a great interchange between Dove and Liam Willment led to Willment being felled in the area, Nick Carter slotting home to make it 2-1.

Rangers scored a quick third through Troy Hannam. Hannam was then chopped down in the area and Banwell were reduced to 10 men and Carter scored again to make it 4-1.

Worle upped the tempo further and by the time Banwell had scored their second, Worle had added three more through Chris Brinson, Willment and Tom Williams. Rangers were rampant and an Adam Brown brace completed the scoring.

The victory was built upon the efforts of the solid defence in the first half, but the second half belonged to the front six and subs of Carter, Willment, Brinson, Jamie Ingersent, Dove, Troy Hannam, Williams, Brown and Dean Bray.

The Curry Garden man of the match went to Matt Dove.

Kewstoke Lions Res 1

King Alfred SC 1

KEWSTOKE returned to league action against a well-organised King Alfred outfit.

After failing to capitalise on first-half chances, Kewstoke had to wait until 10 minutes into the second period to score, when Alex Chatterley finished off smart work from Dave Reynolds.

With a more solid defence, Kewstoke dealt with the breakaway threat from the away side. The midfield gave a battling performance and both strikers, Scott Thompson and Andy Wilson, held the ball well up front to bring in the wingers.

Unfortunately for the home side, King Alfred equalised in the dying minutes from a corner to share the points. Charles Uwadia gave a great captain’s performance and was voted man of the match.

Shipham Res 4

Yatton Athletic A 3

SHIPHAM extended their winning Division 6 streak to two games with a hard fought victory over Yatton.

Shipham started slowly and found themselves a goal behind, the defence of Roberts, Ireland and Shilton were often left exposed and this let Yatton have the ascendency. Shipham battled on but found themselves 2-0 down shortly before half-time.

After the break, Shipham got a goal back when Lee Stacey bundled in a Seb Winter cross. Jon Rowsell and Jon Winter became more influential as the game went on, but Shipham went 3-1 behind shortly after scoring themselves.

Things were looking even worse for Shipham when a mistimed Rob Ireland tackle gave Yatton a penalty. The normally prolific Stu Newson, on a hat-trick, saw his shot fantastically saved by Shipham keeper George Stone.

Shipham were spurred on by this and player/manager Joe Rowsell brought himself off and this appeared to be the catalyst for the comeback. Firstly Stacey finished off another Winter pass and then Winter netted.

With four minutes to go and with Shipham piling on the pressure, a Stacey corner was finshed off by Winter to snatch victory.

The man of the match award went to Lee Stacey.

Priory Rangers 4 Pill Utd 3

DESPITE not having as much of the ball, Priory always looked dangerous when they broke forward.

It was from one of these breaks that they took the lead when Jordan Elliott’s cross was turned in at the near post by Dave Senior. The lead was doubled when Mat Keedwell scored with an exquisite chip from outside the area.

Priory further extended the lead with Senior grabbing his second with a good finish. A lapse in concentration then allowed the visitors back into the game before Priory regained their three goal advantage when Keedwell scored his second.

Although the second half was a backs to the wall affair for Priory after conceding early on, the defence were marshalled superbly by Andy Wingrove and helped by the midfield.

Debutant Chris Mullins made some excellent saves late on to ensure Priory kept hold of their lead. Parish Pump man of the match was Ben Holbrook.
